Another day..........
I read a blog last night from a Boot Camper that brought me to tears. This morning I am still thinking on it. It has so touched my heart.
Maybe because I work with people with dissabilities, severly handicapped.... people who have come from "Institutions", treated cruelly.
I thank the Lord this loving father had such a wonderful daughter as her to help him along during this time in his life.
I work in a place where the "state" is the guardian of most of the people I care for.
Family has either disowned, are ashamed or have died themselves. Whatever the reason, we are family to most of them. The only "family" they see.
It is heartbreaking to think that people can be forgotten or hidden away.
I don't know how long ago this happpened, but I'd like to think things have changed. I like to think we live in a perfect world. Right!
All I do know is as long as these people live, they are to be treated with dignity and respect. It is my job to care, to assist, to feed most of them. I am often reminded that at anytime that could be me! How would I want to be treated?
After reading this blog last night, I am reminded even more importantly.....this gentleman is someone's father or lady is someone's mother.
Wow, thank you for posting what you did. For giving me a glimpse into your life....

Joanne, the work you do isn't easy, and may sometimes be draining, but the reward for being there in attendance of a fellow human being is one that cannot be understated. You're a woman with compassion and a very rich heart. It's good to have you back in Boot Camp ;-).
